An alt world theory I have heard is the new Splatoon game may be a remix of the first three games as something like "Splatlands DX"

It would notably bring Splatoon 1 to Switch and Switch 2 but not as a direct port.

The game would obviously use Splatoon 3 as starting point.

Each rotation would have three stages instead of two. One stage picked from each game. Salmon Run would have two worksites at the same time.

The story modes from all three games and the two dlcs would be included. Also Grand Fest would return with unique and added content.

All three two squares could be used similar to how Splatoon 1 plaza was added to Splatoon 3 in the DLC.

The missing specials from Splatoon 2 would be added more or less as is. That leaves the specials from Splatoon 1 which are the unclear piece.

As an added bonus to Stay Fresh the DX version would then add completely new stages, gear and weapons over its two year content run.

This would be a 2025/2026 title coming after the Switch 2 launch and visuals would be upgraded to the Switch 2 edition if it supports something like 4K.

The purpose of this title being to bring Splatoon 1 content to a wider audience in a format that works for players of the third game. This title also keeps the Splatoon community engaged with the series with remixed and some lighter new content while giving the development team a longer period of time to work on Splatoon 4, which will reportedly be outside the Splatlands for the first time.

It is just a theory/speculation but almost makes too much sense for it not to happen.
