• It's fairly simple: Don't be a dumbass.

Of course, people disagree on what that means, so we're going to clear up a few basics around here:

    - Respect others time and person. We don't care what walk of life you're from or any personal choices you make in that life. We merely ask you act kindly and respectfully towards each other.
    - We will not discuss personal religion or politics. This seems to always lead to a fight.
    - No self advertising, without express permission from the admins.
    - Keep topics on topic.

In the end, there are probably more specific rules that need to be written, but in general don't be a dumbass pretty much encompasses everything that needs to be said.

Nintendo 3-Way Switch

Figure I would get the conversation started early.

What is everyone hoping are the new features for the successor to the "Switch 2"?

Let's call it the "3-Way Switch" for now.

I am ok with the power being between PS4 Pro and Series S. Quick resume like Xbox where you can have a few games in suspend at a time. At least 256gb on board storage. Pro Controllers with analog triggers, those paddle button things in the back, headphone/mic jack, and RGB leds on facebuttons and sticks.

Sounds kinda weak for hardware coming out in 2032~2033...

The number one feature I want for the Switch 3 is a release that isn't a full 8 years after Switch 2 o_O
I honestly think Nintendo is hurting itself by waiting so long with Switch 2.

This is the double-edge sword itself. We're already salivating about the crumbs of rumors and supposed "news" we've gotten since March, so when they finally announce it is when all the fruits of their labor will start to ripen. We won't know for sure what the future has in store, but the seemingly absent year has not been for naught.

In fairness there was a "Switch Pro" which was tracking to come out around late 2020/early 2021. The pandemic and related chip shortage caused that to morph into the less exciting Switch OLED.

Also something seems a little off on the Switch 2. Things seemed to be lining up for March 2024 but for some reason it was delayed.

In terms of power, I'm honestly not expecting more than 4x the FLOPS of the Switch 2, as we are starting to flatline a bit in terms of raw performance. So if the Switch 2 does around, say, 2 TFLOPS in handheld, and 4.0 TFLOPS in docked, then I'll say 7-8 TFLOPS in handheld, and 14-16 TFLOPS when docked. The SOC will be on a 1.5nm die.

Who knows, though? Maybe they'll surprise us. It will also depends on how long Nintendo plans for the Switch 2 generation to last. It could go on up to 10 years for all we know. In which case, they can probably achieve 5-6x the FLOPS by that time.

For RAM, I'll say 24 GB with a 128-bit bus, and DDR7/DDR7X speeds. It will, of course, have frame generation by that time. 3-4x the Tensor and RT cores of the T239, and some form of DLA to make DLSS more efficient. And I'm sure NVIDIA will make some crazy new tech by then that may also be added in. It will output to 4K, and maybe up to 8K, should 8K content be more comon by that time. But 8K may still not be worth targeting for most games, even by 2035. So I'm not expecting 8K output, especially with the specs I proposed earlier.

For controls, maybe some bells and whistles that never made it to the Switch 2, like the scrollers on the L & R bumbers, and some form of VR, should that start climbing in popularity by that time (which I kind of doubt).

For storage, an all new form of SD Express that can achieve 4-5 GB/s, with the onboard storage being 1 TB, and running on PCIe 5.0.

The screen will OLED, as the tech by then will be dirt-cheap, and battery life will be similar to the Switch 2.

Cost by then may be up to the $500-$600 range.
